SOLAS 128 Scoops Games BAFTA

SOLAS 128 the synthwave-suffused light-pulsing puzzle game from Amicable Animal, was awarded the GAMES trophy, at the glittering star-studded BAFTA Scotland Awards 2021 ceremony this weekend, fighting off competition from fellow developers Blazing Griffin (nominated for Murder Mystery Machine) and Bitloom (PHOGS).

Tom Methven, the founder and head of Amicable Animal, told the Scottish Games Network:

The team and I were still getting over being nominated at all, especially alongside two such incredible games, so to win has genuinely blown our minds a little bit. So many people were so generous with their time and I can’t thank them enough – SOLAS 128 wouldn’t be what it is without them.”

Joining Edith Bowman on the night to present the BAFTA Scotland Awards 2021, which celebrated the very best in film, games and television produced over the last year in Scotland, was Sanjeev Kohli, alongside a number of guest presenters and nominees including Abigail Lawrie, Claire Lim; David Carlyle; Dougray Scott; Jack Docherty; Jean Johannsson; Joanna Vanderham; Kirsty Wark; Lauren Lyle; Lawrence Chaney; Malachi Kirby; Mark Stanley; Marli Siu; Ncuti Gatwa; Sara Vickers; Sharon Rooney and Tamara Lawrance; with Brian Cox; Glenda Jackson, James McArdle and Mark Bonnar joining the ceremony remotely.

Jude MacLaverty, Director of BAFTA Scotland, said:

This year has remained an incredibly challenging one for many, and so we are delighted to have been able to recognise the achievements of the film, games and television industries that have continued to keep us informed and entertained during this time.

We were also thrilled to be able to welcome back a live, specially invited audience of nominees – albeit a smaller one than usual – and we would like to thank our incredible hosts, guest presenters and wonderful partners for helping us deliver such a brilliant show tonight.

It really has been absolutely fantastic to celebrate the inspiring work that’s being produced in Scotland over the past year, and we would like to offer our warmest congratulations to all our worthy winners and nominees.
