Hutch Dundee Studio Moves to Water’s Edge

Hutch Games, the mobile racing game specialist, which was acquired in December 2020 by MTG, is relocating its Dundee office to the prestigious Water’s Edge facility on the banks of the Tay.

Founded a decade ago in London, Hutch established a studio in Dundee in 2018, within the Dundee & Angus college campus.

The company’s games, including F1 Manager, Rebel Racing, and Top Drives have been downloaded well over 300 million times.

This success led to Hutch Games being acquired by Modern Times Group (MTG), the Stockholm-based publisher which also owns fellow Dundee Studio Ninja Kiwi.

The studio will now be located in Water’s Edge – owned by games entrepreneurs Chris van der Kuyl and Paddy Burns – alongside some of Dundee’s other notable developers including Stormcloud Games, Puny Astronaut and 4J Studios.

Peter Hansen-Chambers, the chief financial officer (CFO) of Hutch Games, said:

Dundee has always had a reputation for fantastic games talent. That made it very attractive to us as we seek to grow. Although very different to our London office, there are similarities in that the building has a great deal of individual character and represents a link with Dundee’s history. There has clearly been a lot of investment into the area and seeing that alongside tyhe city’s rich heritage is very impressive.

Paddy Burns told the Courier:

The abundance of talent in Dundee and the energy in the wider tech ecosystem are making Scotland a greater draw for major digital employers.
