‘Fun’ may not be a four-letter word, but ‘game’ is. So there’s a good chance that the world’s favourite cursing culinarian may be using it in the near future, thanks to the launch of Gordon Ramsay’s Chef Blast, which is OUT NOW for iOS and Android.
Developed by Outplay Entertainment (the UK’s largest independent mobile game developer) and published by Chinese mobile giant iDreamSky, Gordon Ramsay’s Chef Blast was designed in conjunction with the chef himself and inspired by the television programme Culinary Genius.
Oddly enough, rather than focusing on cooking, Chef Blast is a block busting puzzler. Players have to remove blocks of the same colour in order to clear each level. Matching more than three blocks will produce rockets, bombs, chillis and other useful ingredients to speed them on their way.
Gordon Ramsay said:
When the team at Outplay told me the idea behind Chef Blast, I was immediately sold on it.
I can’t wait to turn up the heat on everyone and see how they do.
The game features a virtual Gordon Ramsay to offer encouragement or as the press-release puts it offer ‘the occasional virtual kick in the backside’. While Gordon has indeed given us encouragement and advice in the game, disappointingly we haven’t (yet) been subjected to an astonishing foul-mouthed torrent of abuse from the sharp-tongued chef. Maybe that’s coming in some DLC, or you have to reach level 10 or something.
The game does connect to real world cooking however. Players are able to unlock some of the chef’s favorite recipes, as well as new exclusives that have never been available online or in any of his cookbooks, by completing in-game challenges.
Richard Hare, the co-founder and President of Outplay, told the SGN:
It’s been an absolute thrill and a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the entire team at Outplay getting to work with Chef Ramsay on Chef Blast.
I’m incredibly proud of what everyone has accomplished in bringing Chef Blast to players worldwide, especially during this chaotic time, and we can’t wait for players to get their chance to experience it for themselves.
