Richard LeMarchand Leads ProtoPlay Line Up

077 - Dare ProtoPlay - 960x300Richard Lemarchand, Lead Game Designer on all three Uncharted games, will lead the line-up at Dare ProtoPlay, Scotland’s biggest video games festival.

Dare ProtoPlay, which is organised and run by Abertay University, champions the very best in digital creativity and innovation, from the 15 student games created for the Dare to be Digital game design competition, to experimental games from new independent companies.

RICHARDLEMARCHANDRichard, who is now a professor in the USC Games programme in Los Angeles, California, will look at the cultures and identities that will shape the technology, business and art of tomorrow’s games.

The festival will also feature the UK premiere of Us and the Games Industry, a documentary about the art of game design which includes Richard, Jason Rohrer and thatgamecompany. The premiere will be followed by an expert panel chaired by Richard.

Richard Lemarchand said:

I’m delighted to be able to attend this year’s Dare ProtoPlay. Dare to be Digital and Abertay University are known around the world for inspiring innovation and excellence among young game designers, and I can’t wait to see the creative games and take part in the fun that will make up this year’s festival. See you in Dundee!

Professor Louis Natanson, Head of the School of Arts, Media and Computer Games at Abertay University, said:

It’s a real honour that a game designer of Richard’s international standing is coming to Dundee to speak at the Dare ProtoPlay games festival.

The Uncharted games were huge critical and commercial successes, and showed how strong the role of the designer should be in developing any game, whether that’s designing levels, characters, narrative or thinking more broadly about a player’s entire experience.

We’re fascinated to hear Richard’s thoughts about the future of games and to show the UK premiere of Us and the Games Industry. We expect both to be very popular events.

PrintDare ProtoPlay runs from Thursday 7 to Sunday 10 August in Dundee’s Caird Hall and City Square. Last year’s festival attracted over 13,000 visitors across the four days.

Richard Lemarchand will speak about Games and Players: Futures and Predictions at 6.15pm on Friday 8 August.

The UK premiere of Us and the Games Industry is at 6.30pm on Saturday 9 August.

Tickets to both events are free and can be booked at www.dareprotoplay.com
