Games Design Intern – V&A Dundee

V&A Dundee and Abertay University Announce One-Year Game Design Internship

Applications are open for a dedicated V&A Dundee Game Design Intern, offering a recent Abertay University graduate a paid, one-year placement embedded within the museum’s Learning department.

The role – salaried at £26,299.55 – is designed to bridge academic game design expertise with public cultural programming, museum learning, and interactive exhibition design.

Integrating Game Design into Museum Learning

Operating under the formal title of Game Design Assistant Learning Producer, the successful candidate will work across V&A Dundee’s Learning team to bring a game design perspective to public engagement. The intern will develop analogue and digital game lab experiences, design educational workshops, and deliver participatory public events aimed at families, schools, and young people.

Beyond leading independent programming, the post holder will serve as an internal advisor for colleagues developing interactive experiences across the venue. The position also offers scope to collaborate with the project team behind VAD2028 – V&A Dundee’s upcoming capital project – contributing directly to how games and digital design are represented in the new Scottish Design Galleries.

Strengthening the Dundee Ecosystem

The internship formalises further collaboration between Scotland’s national design museum and Abertay University. It highlights how game design methodologies are increasingly being applied outside traditional commercial software development – aligning directly with the broader More Than Games agenda by embedding game creators within civic, cultural, and educational institutions.
