BAFTA Scotland is holding a Games Masterclass, exploring accessibility in games and how studios can incorporate it into its existing culture, as well as the games it creates.
Embedding Accessibility takes place on Thursday 26th September at 18:00 in the Cyber Quarter at Abertay University in Dundee, presented by Scottish Games Award winner Searra Leishman, the Accessibility and UK Design Manager at Hyper Luminal Games.
Event Details
Accessibility in games is becoming ever more important. Hear from Searra Leishman, Accessibility & UX Design Manager, as she shares HyperLuminal’s experiences building accessibility features in their games, and how it was built into the very culture of their studio.
Audiences will hear about Pine Hearts as an example, which features a vast swathe of accessibility options, including but not limited to options to change the text size and spacing, the inclusion of a dyslexia-friendly alternative font, different visual colour modes including a black and white mode, and alternate controls.
You will find out how they implemented these and who they consulted within the development of these tools, to inspire developers in the audience and spark conversation.
The keynote will be followed by a mixer and networking drinks.

This looks like a great event and one that I’m gutted that I won’t be able to attend due to having a prior engagement. Hopefully we’ll see more accessibility-themed events in Scotland in future, ideally on days I can make it. 🙂
