MOVE Summit, Scotland’s premiere animation and VFX event, is returning to Edinburgh this year, from the 22nd-24th of February.
Featuring speakers from the likes of Pixar, Aardman, and Netflix, as well as dedicated sessions and content for up-and-coming artists and students, the event has something for everyone even tangentially involved in the realm of animation.
An Event For All Seasons
Co-founded in 2017 by Edinburgh-based animation studios Interference Pattern and Stampede, MOVE Summit went on to become an annual event; a Mecca of sorts for Scotland’s, and to an extent the UK’s, animation industry. According to Tom Bryant, the event’s Director, this ongoing success is due to the range of content the event offers for animation professionals at all levels:
“We host amazing speakers from studios around the world. Industry powerhouses such as Disney, Pixar, Framestore, Blue Zoo, Axis Studios, MPC, Aardman, Buck, Epic, Unity, Nexus, to name a few. Basically the best of the best. As well as these talks and presentations, we run a range of other sessions, such as more intimate skills workshops, where delegates can get insight into specific skills such as storyboarding, 3D character, sculpting and grooming, character design.”
Beyond these high-level sessions, MOVE Summit also offers a lot in the way of early-career mentoring and development:
“Since its inception, MOVE has been focussed on helping talent grow and find their way into employment. To this end, our Emerging Talent development day for current animation students and those recently graduated is a dedicated programme of focused talks, workshops, panels and networking opportunities. Then we have our renowned (and often emulated) portfolio and creative reviews for students, recent graduates and freelancers, where you can book a 15 minute 1-2-1 feedback and advice session with one of our frankly unbelievable reviews panel, with the aim of helping you find your place within the industry and developing your craft.”
