A storm is stirring in the south of Scotland; as part of the first-ever Scottish Games Week event this October, South of Scotland Enterprise have announced the Get Into Games event, an evening of networking and presentations from seasoned industry professionals.
Crossing the Borders
Taking place on October 26th, and hosted at Geek Retreat, a shop in Galashiels dedicated to all things geek, the event will feature a stellar lineup of guest speakers.
First up is Justin Alae-Carew, Co-Head of Games at Blazing Griffin. He’ll be discussing his journey through the often-turbulent games industry so far, as well as giving his thoughts on the kinds of creative skills necessary to make great games.
Next, Michael Gardiner, a Digital Development Specialist with over 15 years of experience in the sector, will be looking at the applications of gaming tech in non-gaming industries.
And finally James Hood, CEO of Esports Scotland, will be talking about the rapidly growing, and evolving, world of esports, including a discussion of Team Scotland’s silver medal performance at this year’s commonwealth games.
All Night Long
These top-tier talks will be sandwiched between 2 hours of networking and gaming, with Geek Retreat kindly offering the use of their escape room and arcade machine for all event attendees.
This event is a brilliant opportunity for aspiring game developers, and anyone interested in the world of tech at all, to get an in-depth look at the industry through the eyes of some top professionals. Best of all, it’s completely free to attend, with tickets available through Eventbrite now.
This looks to be an excellent evening for all involved, and another delicious course on the already-stacked Scottish Games Week menu. Be sure to go along if you can, and check out the rest of the Scottish Games Week lineup here.
