Baroness Thatcher Has Broken Out Of Hell – And The Lady’s Not For Returning
Thatcher’s Techbase is a brand new release from Scottish development team Doom Daddy, in which the legions of hell from the original game have been supplemented with a new, even more diabolical leader.
Instead of an abandoned base on Mars, the game is set in the 10th circle of hell, or the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, if you want to be formal. It’s… a little political. As well as a giant multi-legged spider Maggie, the game also features classic campaign propaganda from the Conservative party and voice clips from some of the former PM’s most famous speeches.
Thatcher’s Techbase is a free Boom-compatible DOOM WAD that can be played on any device that can run a Boom-compatible source port of DOOM. This includes PC, Mac, Linux, Nintendo 3/DS, Wii, PSVita and Android devices – to name but a few.
The game features five difficulty levels, as well as cooperative and multiplayer modes.
The soundtrack has been composed by Barry ‘Epoch’ Topping and captures the original DOOM’s joyous metal-driven sound, with some defiant retro-gaming glee. You can – and should – buy the soundtrack on Bandcamp (£4 for the whole thing).
While the game is entirely free to download and play, Doom Daddy has a few helpful suggestions for organisations you might care to make a donation to, including Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation (CISWO), Stonewall, Living Rent, the Scottish Refugee Council, the Official Hillsborough Justice Campaign, and the International Centre for Transitional Justice, all of which were areas of huge interest to the former PM.
You can find out more about the game, including exhaustive instructions on how to find, download, emulate, install and play Thatcher’s Techbase, as well as full credits and links to everyone involved (except the mysterious ‘Jim Purvis’, the mastermind behind the whole project…) So even if you’ve never played a DOOM WAD (we’re not judging), the step-by-step instructions will guide you through.
The game is dedicated to everyone who Margaret Thatcher hated and to everyone who hated Margaret Thatcher.
Thatcher’s Techbase is OUT NOW for PC, Mac, Linux, Nintendo 3/DS, Wii, PSVita and Android devices.
