Hey, videogames courses Scotland! Do you teach games, either in college or university in Scotland? Are you studying games at college or university? This post is for you.
The truly wonderful Dr Amanda Ford, a Lecturer in Creative & Digital Industries at West College Scotland (Paisley Campus) has created Discord server for students (and lecturers) at the colleges and universities across Scotland which offer games (and games-related) courses.
While there are some connections between the various societies, esports groups and jams, there are few ways for students to build connections through from college to university.
Amanda told the Scottish Games Network:
I teach schools NPA class through to HND Computer Games Development. I have also recently been accepted as a Women in Games Ambassador. After a brief spell of working part time both at the college and at Glasgow Caledonian university I have seen students progress between FE/HE. I think it would be useful for FE students to have links to HE already even from an earlier level than HND year. I do feel strongly that our FE students need the opportunities to grow and succeed in HE and that both FE/HE should be working more closer together for our students benefit.
So Amanda has created a Discord server for students and lecturers within Scotland for those studying and teaching games-related courses, in both college and university. The plan is to have somewhere for students to chat about games in general but also about the specific streams they are interested in, be it design, programming, art, audio, production, etc.
If you are a lecturer on videogames courses Scotland and would: a) like to join or b) pass on the details to your own students, please get in touch with Amanda directly.
If you are a student on a games-related course at any institution, and would like to join, please send Amanda an email FROM YOUR STUDENT ACCOUNT, with details of the course you are studying and she will send an invitation your way.
