Two Scottish games technology companies have made it to the Scotland Tech 50 – a list of the country’s top tech firms.
Speech Graphics (16) and Krotos (40), both based in Edinburgh, have made the list, which was created by a panel of business experts, as well as a public vote on the shortlist.
Created by Business Cloud, the Scotland Tech 50 is topped by PureLiFi, another Edinburgh company, which has created a unique technology that utilises light to transmit WiFi signals.
Number 2 on the list is TVSquared, the television advertsing company (chaired by our very own Chris van der Kuyl).
Companies from sectors including Fintech, Space, Healthcare, IoT, and many of the other sectors where Scotland is pioneering are all featured.
Speech Graphics provides procedural facial animation for videogames, film, TV and other animation uses. The company’s award-winning technology is based upon research and development in muscle dynamics, facial modeling, speech recognition and computer graphics.
You’ve absolutely seen their work in the very recent past. Their work credits include: Fortnite, State of Decay 2, Gears 4, Gears 5, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Call of Duty: WWII, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, The Last of Us II, and the Kanye video for Black Skinhead.
Krotos creates innovative sound design software. It has produced a range of award winning software including Dehumaniser, Reformer Pro, Weaponiser, Igniter and Concept, making sound design faster, simpler and more integrated game developers, as well as film, TV, radio and other content creators.
Its credits include (deep breath): Half Life: Alyx, Cyberpunk 2077, Devil May Cry, Serious Sam 4, Far Cry 4, Shadow of the Beast, NFL 17, Eve Online, Warhammer (Inquisitor & Deathwatch) among many others.
