OUT NOW – VM Fireworks

The Edinburgh festival (the world’s largest arts festival, don’t forget) may be over for another year, but thanks to Hippotrix, now the whole world can enjoy the festival’s earth-shattering climax in the comfort of their pocket or purse, thanks to the new VM Fireworks app.

Available in Apple’s App Store, the iOS app lets users create their own bespoke firework displays to accompany the concert’s grand finale, Tchaikovsky’s famous 1812 Overture.

Nicola Kenny, Digital Marketing Officer at the Edinburgh International Festival, said:

It takes a team of 15 pyrotechnicians 7 days to lay out the fireworks at Edinburgh Castle, but the new app lets you create your own display in minutes. We are delighted to be able to match the music of Tchaikovsky with the latest technology in order to celebrate the 33rd annual concert.

The app has been designed by East Lothian app developer Hippotrix. Producer Simone Bloomfield said:

We wanted to bring the magic of Edinburgh’s world-famous fireworks to people’s pockets, so the app contains all the fantastic visuals that everyone knows and loves – even including the hugely popular Waterfall down Castle Rock.

Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, written to celebrate Russia’s deliverance from Napoleon’s invading armies, and performed by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, ended the Fireworks Concert on Sunday 31st August with an electrifying conclusion, accompanied by a glittering display of pyrotechnics from the Edinburgh Castle ramparts – and now iPhones and iPads around the world.

VM Fireworks is FREE to download and is available for your favourite iOS device (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch).
