BAFTA Scotland has created an animation masterclass featuring Axis Animation’s Creative Director Stuart Aitken.
The session will look at the creative processes behind successful projects such as Halo 4: Spartan Ops and the award-winning trailer for horror video game, Dead Island.
According to Axis:
A certified industry veteran with well over a decade of experience wrangling amazing visuals from tempremental silicon chips, Stu began his career in the fledgling CGI industry in the early 90’s soon after graduating from Glasgow School of Art with Honours in Design.
Stu co-founded Axis Animation in 2000 with his colleagues Richard, Graham and Dana and in his role as Creative Director he oversees all CG production, creative output, and the space where technical and creative meet.
Stu has either supervised or contributed to most of Axis’ significant projects over the last 10 years. He has directed ground-breaking work for Electronic Arts and Sony Computer Entertainment and was CG Supervisor on the multi-award-winning ‘Codehunters‘ promo for MTV Asia awards in 2006. As a Director Stu combines a finely-developed eye for lighting, pace and framing with considerable technical insight. He relishes technically demanding challenges and innovative approaches to storytelling and look.
Stu’s personal interests include photography, film, reading SF and travelling to cinematic locations that are far, far away from his workplace. On occasion Stu has been spotted careering down steep hills, either on skis or mountain bike (but rarely both at the same time); sightings are also likely around purveyors of fine cuisine.
The event takes place at the Glasgow Film Theatre on Thursday 29th of May, starting at 18:10. Full price tickets are £8 (£6.50 concession).
