Back in December, the creative powerhouse/dynamic duo behind the rather amazing Game City festival, made it through wind and weather to hold their first ever Modern Playing event at Edinburgh’s Filmhouse.
It was a lovely evening. Games were discussed. Play was pondered. Snow fell. A christmas tree was adopted. A bearded man came from the east on a camel. No, a llama. It was the sort of event which left a warm glow in your heart, even when faced with driving sleet outside.
We’re thrilled to report that Modern Playing is coming back. The team, Iain and James, have been on a voyage of discovery and revelation in the far east. They’re bringing back the secrets revealed unto them and the wisdom found at the feet of the most ancient masters – and they want to tell you all about it…
Modern Playing is going to Japan, and when they get back, they’d like to tell you all about it. Let them take you on a 12,000 mile round trip to the spiritual home of videogames and back again. Marvel at the heaving shelves of game stores and think back to the empty Zavvi in your high street. Stare in disbelief at the ‘sold out’ signs on the Wii U shelves. But above all, enjoy an evening of talk, music, video and discussion about what we know, what we have learned, and what we still don’t understand about Japanese game development and the cultures of play.
The show then moves on to:
- Cardiff, Chapter – 16/04/2014
- London, BFI Southbank – 18/04/2014
DEVELOPERS – Modern Playing wants you. Well, you’re games specifically. If you have a game, or games you’d like to show to an audience of discerning and appreciative games fans/creators/professors/lecturers/developers/other, then you can sign up NOW and head for the Filmhouse too.
We’ll be there…
