If you thought BAFTA was just about film and television, think again. The academy has built up a huge range of games events, activities and expertise over the last several years. The annual games awards have been a major part of the UK’s games scene for many years now and BAFTA created an entirely new award category for the winners of the Dare to be Digital competition.
BAFTA Scotland is working on a whole new programme too. The very first games-related event in Scotland, BAFTA PLAY, took place with Glasgow Caledonian University a week ago, celebrating the new talent, new games and indie goodness coming though both the Scottish Games Jam and the BAFTA New Talent awards.
There’s more to come. BAFTA Scotland is already speaking to many of the existing events and organisations in Scotland, to ensure that games elements and interactive components are included in the festivals, conferences, expos and screenings taking place around the country. There will be more dedicated games events too – not to mention the opportunity to meet people from across the film, TV and other screen sectors.
The whole BAFTA games programme is basically a who’s who of the whole wide world of gaming. From the high profile Guru events, through to the BAFTA fellowship programme (Gabe Newell was the last fellow…), the annual games lecture (Hideo Kojima, Bioware…) and the Young Game Designer competition, BAFTA is working to make games an integral part of the academy’s future.
Plus you get to participate in the packed programme of awesomeness that BAFTA UK has planned for 2013 and beyond.
