Outplay – Two New Games, Two New Board Members

Social games publisher Outplay, which launched at the start of 2011, has officially announced its first two titles – Word Trick and Booty Quest.

The company has also today appointed two new non-executive directors.  Karen Thomson, the former president of AOL Europe has joined the company as Chair, while Randy Breen, a former executive of both Electronic Arts and LucasArts becomes a director.

From the press release:

To assist with their ambitious publishing plans, Outplay has appointed Karen Thomson as Non-Executive Chair to serve in an advisory capacity, having built up a wealth of experience in previous roles such as President of AOL Europe, Online Business Unit Director for Vodafone and most recently as Non-Executive Director for UBM.

“I chose to join the Outplay board because I believe Douglas and Richard have the vision, passion, drive and experience to create huge business opportunities as well as fantastic entertainment properties,” said Karen Thomson, non-executive chair for Outplay. “I am delighted to be involved with such a forward thinking company and look forward to working with Outplay to create rich gaming experiences that bridge the gap between mobile and online platforms.”

Randy Breen has also joined the Outplay board. Breen brings more than two decades of game production experience, including 14 years at Electronic Arts (EA) where he worked in roles such as Executive Producer and Creative Director, overseeing PC and console games across genres including creation and management of the hit franchise “Road Rash,” as well as five years at LucasArts where he worked as Vice President of Product Development. Most recently, Breen served as CEO for Social Game Network (SGN), one of the largest developers of social and mobile games.

“Social and mobile gaming have only begun to show their full potential, and I believe Outplay are well positioned to become a major player in the industry,” said Randy Breen, non-executive director of Outplay. “I’ve known Douglas and Richard for more than a decade and having seen what they and the rest of the Outplay team have accomplished since April and what they have planned for the future, I’m very excited to be part of the board.”

“Karen and Randy bring a wealth of complementary experience and expertise to Outplay Entertainment,” said Douglas Hare, CEO & co-founder of Outplay. “Karen’s marketing background and track record with large-scale consumer-facing internet and mobile businesses combined with Randy’s remarkable creative, production and business expertise will be invaluable to Outplay’s ambitious growth plans for 2012 and beyond. We are thrilled to have them onboard.”

Both games are now live on Facebook, where they can be played – free.  You can find Outplay itself over on Facebook, on Twitter, or indeed follow the games in the same way.  Word Trick is on Facebook and Twitter.  While alternatively Booty Quest can be found on Twitter and Facebook.

Word Trick hit the headlines recently on news programmes all over Scotland, when a young man refused to disembark a train, while playing fast-paced game of Word Trick against three friends.

It was also awarded 4.5 out of 5 stars by Gamezebo.
