The Scottish Parliament has backed an amendment from Scottish Liberal Democrat culture spokesperson David Green MSP, calling on the Scottish Government to establish regional gaming hubs and a National Games Innovation Centre to support start-ups and share expertise across the sector.
The amendment cites recent closures and job losses in the sector, including at Axis Studios and Build a Rocket Boy, as evidence of the need for stronger support infrastructure.
The proposals reflect recommendations set out in Scotland’s National Games Action Plan, published earlier this year following an 18-month, industry-wide consultation and a parliamentary debate which gained cross-party support. The Scottish Government has signalled it will engage with the Liberal Democrats on next steps.
This builds upon the Scottish Liberal Democrats manifesto, published in February 2026, which called for dedicated support for the country’s games ecosystem and for the government to work directly with SGN to deliver the recommendations within the Games Action Plan.
SGN welcomes all political engagement that moves Scotland’s games sector toward a properly resourced national strategy, and will continue to work with representatives across Government and Parliament to that end.
