Landmark Skills Survey Launched to Shape Future of Scotland’s Games Industry

Games Skills Survey! In a groundbreaking move to understand the key challenges facing the Scottish games ecosystem, Skills Development Scotland has worked with the Scottish Games Network to launch the first-ever research project into the skills landscape across the sector.

This vital initiative, conducted by independent research agency EKOS, supported by the Scottish Games Network, aims to gather the first-ever data around skills and training across Scotland’s games ecosystem. This will directly impact the ongoing development and implementation of the National Games Sector Action Plan.

The research will focus on three key areas:

  • The Shape and Scale of the Games Sector: Mapping the breadth of the games ecosystem, including esports and the wider support ecosystem.
  • Current Education and Training Provision: Assessing the existing educational pathways and training opportunities available to aspiring and established game developers.
  • Skills Challenges Facing Scottish Games Sector Employers: Identifying the specific skills gaps and challenges hindering the growth of game studios and related businesses.

The survey marks the first time, that detailed data on the current and future skills needs of the whole games sector. This research will be instrumental in driving positive change and ensuring the industry can access the talent it needs to grow and thrive.

To ensure the community’s voice is heard, EKOS has developed a short, 10-minute survey designed to capture the experiences and perspectives of developers, studios, freelancers, and other businesses across the entire games ecosystem (including esports) in Scotland. All responses will be treated in strict confidence and reported in aggregate form only, ensuring anonymity.

“We urge everyone involved in the Scottish games ecosystem to take part in this important survey,” said a representative from the Scottish Games Network. “You input will help us understand we can understand and support the future of skills development in for the games community across Scotland.”

The results of this research will be crucial in advocating for positive change and securing the support needed to build a stronger, more vibrant games industry in Scotland. Don’t miss this opportunity to make your voice heard!
