Konglomerate Games Co-Founder Receives Innovate UK Funding

Dundee Studio One Of Only Five Games Companies Across The UK To Be Funded

Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency has announced the recipients of £6.2 million in grants, who are tackling some of today’s biggest societal challenges – with Konglomerate’s co-founder, designer and director Connie Reid one of only five female games leaders across the UK to receive funding.

The innovation competition builds on Innovate UK’s targeted programmes, including Women in Innovation and Young Innovators. Depending on the stage of their business, winners have been awarded either a £5,000 grant plus £10,000 contribution to living allowances, or a £50,000 grant. All winners also receive focused business support to help them grow, stimulating the UK’s economy.

Announcing the Innovate UK funding, Konglomerate Games said:

We are really pleased to announce that Konglomerate Games is an Innovate UK award winner We are among 233 innovators across the UK to receive a support package of funding and personalised mentoring for our co-founder Connie. It is also great to find out that among this cohort are other female led games businesses who have also recieved investment who we have tagged below, please check them out!

Our project is top secret for now but we can tell you it is set right here in Scotland and brings together two things everyone here at Kong is interested in, Scottish Gaelic and nature. Make sure to follow to find out more in future!

The other games leaders to receive Innovate UK funding are:

  • Kate Killick – CEO, Glowfrog Games
  • Jane Gerber – executive producer, Peanut & Crumb
  • Alyx Jones – founder, Silver Script Games
  • Hilary Lok – co-founder, Dot Dot Fire

In total 233 innovation leaders – many of whom are developing innovations to increase sustainability, strengthen social cohesion, or improve healthcare – received funding. Alongside the game sector, recipients covered every nation and region of the UK and incorporated projects focused on sustainability, social impact, medicine, healthcare, mental wellbeing, the creative world, financial education and more.

The grants are just one part of Innovate UK’s work to create a new generation of entrepreneurs:

In line with the UK’s growing appetite for innovation, this new award programme attracted over 2,100 entrepreneurs applying for funding and business mentorship. There is an urgent need to transform the UK’s skills and talent pipeline, through inspiring and connecting people to new opportunities and pathways into innovation. Innovate UK estimates that, to achieve the UK’s full economic potential, 400,000 more innovators need to be supported, from entrepreneurs to engineers.  

Coinciding with the Awards announcement, Innovate UK has joined forces with over 150 partner organisations to launch its free and accessible No Limits digital platform, which makes it easy for aspiring innovators to discover new career paths, sharpen their skills and access opportunities to develop life-changing innovations and future-proof the UK economy.
