Writers Wanted – Scottish Games Network Hiring Freelance Journalists

Writers Wanted: The Scottish Games Network is looking for talented and creative writers to help create content for the world’s only website dedicated to the games ecosystem in Scotland (this one).

The roles are part-time and paid. Knowledge of the Scottish games industry is not required, as training will be given and introductions made.

The SGN site covers all aspects of the Scottish games ecosystem, from news and updates from developers, to opportunities for creators and studios, including funding, pitching and business support.

In addition to news, the SGN site is looking for new content types, to build ever more engagement with the games community. Education, academia, esports, applied games and everything involved the rapidly evolving global games market are all present within the Scottish sector.

The goal is to build a greater profile for the games sector in Scotland, both internally, for those involved in games and externally for audiences including the media, public sector and government, as well as international audiences.

Scottish Games Week

The Scottish Games Network is organising the first ever Scottish Games Week in October 2022. SGN writers will have the opportunity to attend the week’s events and talk to the keynote speakers, participants and delegates at SGW. Events include an education symposium, two-day industry conference and the first ever Scottish Games Awards.

Applicants And Experience

Applicants from diverse backgrounds are encouraged. While experience writing for games-related publications or sites is welcome, it is not required.

Applications should include a link to existing examples of your writing, or a new 300-350 word piece about an aspect of the games ecosystem in Scotland. This can be a news story, article about a topic relevant to the Scottish games sector, an interview with someone working within the games sector in Scotland, or something else which excites, delights, or interests you about videogames.

Reviews of Scottish games are useful for context, but will not be considered relevant for the application.
