Bespoke tartan design celebrates 20th anniversary of Xbox in the UK, will feature on ultra-rare custom controller
To mark the 20th anniversary of the Xbox’s launch in Scotland, Xbox UK has partnered with Kiltmakers Gordon Nicolson and Lochcarron of Scotland, to create an official Xbox tartan.
The landmark pattern and limited-edition controllers commemorate the history of Xbox with a contemporary design created by Edinburgh-based tartan designer Gordon Nicolson – makers of the Scotland National Football Team Tartan. The designs were woven by Lochcarron, Scotland’s oldest mill, in the Borders town of Selkirk.
The Xbox Tartan thread shades echo the Xbox shades; RV Green, Viv Green, Apple 13, Black and White. The tartan has been endorsed by the Scottish Tartans Authority and entered into The Scottish Register of Tartans.

Tartan Designer Gordon Nicolson, said:
It’s an honour to work in partnership with one of the biggest technology brands in the world. It’s certainly a collaboration that hadn’t sprung to mind for us, connecting kilts and games consoles, but we actually have many shared values – innovation, expression of creativity and a sense of heritage. Coming together to celebrate Xbox’s 20th anniversary is the perfect marriage for us.
Graeme Boyd, the Social Media Marketing Manager for Xbox EMEA, told the Scottish Games Network:
We are so pleased that we can celebrate the anniversary for Xbox in Scotland in a fun, authentically Scottish way. It’s fantastic that we’re able to work with innovators in a grand Scottish tradition like Gordon Nicolson, whilst giving something exceptional to gaming fans.
