Crossover Scotland – Creative & Development Labs

Crossover Scotland – Creative & Development Labs

crossover scotlandA couple of weeks ago we attended the Crossover Labs Inspiration Day in central Edinburgh.  If you read the review, you’ll know we rather enjoyed it.  You can read another review here.

It brought together speakers, creators and experts from the film, digital and interactive worlds, for a day which was actually inspirational, exciting and fun.

The Inspiration Day was just the first step in a larger programme of events, which will take participants through a multi-disciplined approach to working together and creating entirely new experiences.

It is followed by two multi-day events, the Creative Lab (March 25th-28th) and the Development Lab (28th April-1st March)…

Crossover Labs LongThe Creative Lab (Venue TBC, Cost: £125) is for anyone working in a creative field who is interested in collaborating with others across disciplines to create new projects. Lead by industry veterans, the Creative Lab brings together like-minded, talented people from across the media and arts landscape to form partnerships and imagine new work.

Participants will leave the lab with a tangible understanding of how to work in different disciplines and utilise the digital landscape effectively to develop exciting projects. You’ll also depart with greater knowledge of a host of fields and a considerably increased range of contacts from across the creative disciplines.

The Development Lab (Venue: TBC, Cost: £125) is for teams or individuals who have a cross-disciplinary project in mind, or in early production, and want to develop it further. Crossover’s team of leading mentors and consultants have a proven track record of developing cross-media projects and bringing them to market, and will expertly guide participants through the process.

Teams and projects selected for the lab will also be invited to a pitch training event on 8th May before they pitch their projects to funders on the 9th May.

The Development Lab will teach participants how to identify their audience, articulate their approach and express this through mapped user journeys. They will also leave with the knowledge of how to produce work that spans platforms and disciplines and create timelines, budgets and treatments.

The best projects from the Development Lab will be invited to a live pitching event for an opportunity to secure funding for their cross platform projects. The event will also serve as an essential opportunity for creative practitioners to learn more about pitching and the current commissioning landscape.

Anyone who is interested in the current landscape of funding for cross platform work will come away from the event armed with greater knowledge of how to get projects commissioned and who is commissioning them. The event will also serve as a fantastic opportunity to learn what funders are looking for so you can gear your own work to current and future trends and meet likeminded people.
