The Scottish Games Jam is the local outpost of the massive Global Game Jam – an annual competition which challenges teams to build an original new game in only 48 hours.
Organised by the Independent Game Developers Association, the global games jam has run since 2008. Last year, the jam attracted over 6,500 competitors, in 44 countries around the world and produced over 1500 games.
This year, Scotland has TWO locations running game jams. Glasgow Caledonian university has run a jam since the competition started and has grown rapidly to become one of the largest jam sites in the world, pulling in judges and sponsors from companies around the world including official Scottishgames chums – Ludometrics, Calm Down Tom and Revolver PR, as well as PopCap, Github, Crytek, Naughty Dog and Gameloft.
YoYo Games in Dundee is a global sponsor, supporting the whole competition.
It was joined last year by a new jam, taking place at Edinburgh’s Napier University, which is back for 2012 and running its own jam site.
The Glasgow jam is full to capacity, but there may be a few spaces left in Edinburgh for those who are interested in taking part.
The Global Games Jam takes place from January 27th – 29th 2012. You can follow the action on the GGJ site, follow them on Twitter, Facebook or keep an eye on the Revolver PR site for the latest Glasgow updates…
