ECGX – Edinburgh College Games eXpo 2025

Get ready to dive into a vibrant celebration of game development as Edinburgh College prepares to host ECGX 2025, its end-of-year show for game development students, alongside a showcase of exciting new projects from the local indie developer community.

This free evening event invites everyone to play the games, meet the creators, and connect with the thriving Edinburgh games scene. Following last year’s success, ECGX returns to CodeBase at 37a Castle Terrace, Edinburgh EH1 2EL.

Attendees will have the unique opportunity to get hands-on with a diverse range of interactive experiences, from fresh student concepts to upcoming titles by established (and award-winning) local studios. It’s a perfect chance to chat directly with developers, share valuable feedback, and get a first look at what’s brewing in the capital’s game dev world.

This year, Edinburgh College students were challenged with the theme of ‘Lifeforms,’ and they’ll be presenting an impressive lineup of titles, including: Bifrost Brawl, Come Bye, Cosmic, Creature Inc., Crypted, Diggy Hole, Epic Wizard Game, Evolunarium, Farm & Field, Farm Monster, Htrae’s Trail, If Such a Feat, In the Bubble, Keeno, Monster Rush, Overgrow, Project Uno, Roman Numeral One, Shapeshifter, Sports-Wall, Survivors, Gambit, The Three Mushketeers, Time Defence, Tower Platformer, and Trespasser Deep!.

Adding to the excitement, several local indie developers will also be showcasing their latest projects.

  • Amicable Animal (BAFTA Award-winning developer of SOLAS 128), showing their music/puzzler CRT7 and their brand new platformer Upfall.

  • With more to come!

Nick Bell, lecturer at Edinburgh College & ECGX 2025 Organiser:

We’re really excited to be returning to CodeBase for ECGx 2025, with more student projects and guest exhibitors than ever!

The goal of ECGx is to celebrate both our creative and talented students and the local community of indie and hobbyist game devs, at the same time. That makes it a unique opportunity for our students. A lot of college students are from working class or unprivileged backgrounds, and haven’t had the opportunity to attend an industry event before.

At ECGx, the guest exhibitors get a low-stakes, friendly event to demo at, and a willing captive audience, and the students get to showcase their hard work at a real-life expo, shoulder-to-shoulder with seasoned devs and award-winning indies, which is an invaluable experience for them.

It’s free to attend and open to anyone who would like to see what Edinburgh College game dev students get up to, hang out and chat to devs, or just play games and eat free snacks.

ECGX is an open invitation to everyone:

If you’re interested in studying game development and want to know more.If you’re a hobbyist or an established game developer with wisdom to share. If you want to meet folks in the local game development community or in game dev education.Or if you simply want to try out some exciting new games.

Refreshments, including sandwiches, nibbles, and soft drinks, will also be provided to keep the energy levels up throughout the evening.
