Uncover a Unique Story About Saying Farewell
Farewell North, is the beautiful debut game from Edinburgh-based independent developer Kyle Banks is OUT NOW for PC (via Steam), Nintendo Switch and Xbox.
The game is an open-world journey where you play as a border collie on an adventure with his owner through the Scottish Highlands. Players explore land and sea, solve puzzles to reveal hidden paths, evade monsters, and free wildlife to bring colour back to the world, while telling an emotional story about saying farewell.
Focusing upon a woman on a personal journey deep in the Scottish highlands, dealing with a declining mental state and the emotions of a tragic loss, all colour has left her world and it’s up to you, as her faithful pet, to bring it back as you aid her on her journey.
The game is already picking up favourable reviews for its heartfelt and emotional impact, with Checkpoint Gaming saying:
The emotional journey that Farewell North presents will likely be a difficult one for many to tackle; the loss of a parent. It handles the subject material eloquently and delicately, offering a tale of companionship between a dog and a human that is the foundation for a heartfelt adventure. Visually stunning and a feast for the ears, this humble story about grief is the most impactful video game experience I’ve had this year and one of the most enthralling I’ve ever had the delight of playing. I’ll never get over the loss of my Mum. But Farewell North gave me some much-needed catharsis. It just might do the same for you.
The game’s Scottish setting and location are integral to the world-building and complemented by Connor Cloughley’s voiceover acting and the soundtrack, created by John Konsolakis. Even more delightfully, all of the in-game dialogue also comes with Gaelic subtitles, to provide a truly immersive Scottish experience.
