The fourth annual Videogames Day, organised by the British Film Institute (BFI) is coming to Edinburgh.
The event is a ‘mini-conference’ exploring business, culture and community in the Scottish and UK video games sector. In previous years, the event has taken place in London, Leeds and Nottingham.
(The BFI oversees the test needed for cultural tax relief for the UK’s videogames sector, in case you were wondering…)
Christopher Halliday, Senior Certification Analyst for the BFI, told SGN: “There will be experts from across the industry, offering advice on how all sizes of UK developer can access the tax relief, plus discussions across all areas of the industry, including: building communities, skills and research being done on video games.
“It’s your chance to discover what’s currently going on in the industry and meet your fellow local Scottish creators.”
The programme is still being finalised, but confirmed panels will focus on topics including:
- How to pass the cultural test and claim video games tax relief
- An update from Creative Scotland
- Statistical research on games in Scotland and how to improve data about the industry
- Building & Maintaining Communities within the UK Games Industry
- Skills in the games industry, hosted by Gina Jackson
- Much, oh so much more to come…
The BFI is also promising an opportunity to ‘discover new games from local creators in an exhibition space and relax and connect at the networking reception.’
The one-day event takes place at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh on June 14 2018 and is free to attend.
Space is limited, so the organisers are recommending booking tickets now to ensure attendance.
The BFI Videogames Day has been organised in partnership with Creative Scotland and The University Of Glasgow.
