Ahoy, shipmates. The scurvy crew at Hidden Armada have unleashed a broadside of much awesome in the form of a Kickstarter campaign to help fund their first game, Mutiny!.
Mutiny! is a chaotic multiplayer pirate brawler – for up to SIXTEEN players – that lets you sail the 77 seas with a crew of your friends and rule over them as Captain. Players battle their way through enemy territory to go down in history as the richest pirate of them all… unless your treacherous pirate brethren turn upon you, stab you in the back and leave your lifeless body for the savage swimming sharks.
Mutiny! features fast, frantic free-flowing 3D combat, weapon pickups, team-play and opportunistic backstabbing, set upon a pirate ship at sea.
Think of the furious, fast-paced madness in multiplayer games like Powerstone,Super Smash Bros, Bomberman and Fat Princess, and thrown it in with a healthy dose of classic cartoon piracy from the likes of Wind Waker, Monkey Island, and One Piece.
It’s crazy, it’s clever and it has a unique twist thrown in for good measure. Mutiny! is multi-device, working across most platforms you care to name. However Hidden Armada have come up with a unique control system, with an integrated mobile app, which allows players to connect their mobile via WiFi and use it as an additional controller. Mobile users can also see additional information and game aspects on their device.
It’s very clever. It also opens the game up in entirely new ways and could be an exciting new development for single device games offering multi-player action.
The Kickstarter campaign is open for the next 30 days. Pledges start from £10 and the backer rewards range from early access, exclusive artwork and in-game mentions, to limited edition art books and the opportunity to appear as a vicious mutineer, captain or other character. Also: pigs!
In short, Mutiny! is an ambitious and exciting new game, from a company which is trying to do things a little differently. The game itself is fast, fun and imaginative. The clever new control system and the use of mobile devices as controllers is a really significant new twist on local multi-player and could provide Hidden Armada with a real hook and some incredible new opportunities to innovate with future games.
