If you’re a regular reader of Scottishgames, then you’ll be familiar with Dare to be Digital. The competition is unique and offers teams of students a chance to experience the sharp end of the creative process like no other event. Even better, the competition culminates in the Protoplay event. Three days of demonstrating the (hopefully) finished games to consumers, kids and members of the public.
Last year’s Protoplay was the biggest ever. Nearly 10,000 people came through the doors over the three days to play the games, hear from industry experts and see the awards getting handed out (expertly we thought…) Protoplay has always been a supporter of new talent, up and coming developers and gaming.
This year, Protoplay is going even further, with a dedicated Indie Games Fest taking place as part of the whole event.
The Indie Games Fest is being presented by the Prototype Fund, which is overseen by Abertay University. It aims to bring together new developers with publishers, funding partners, commissioning editors and other useful people (like the editors of vital gaming blogs).
Speakers at the fest will include:
Channel 4’s new commissioning editor for games
BBC Worldwide’s executive producer of gaming
CCP, the company behind Eve Online
Online gaming company Turbulenz
Games analytics experts Games Analytics
Important editors from vital games industry website(s)
Many more!
BAFTA, which has been a long standing partner with Dare to be Digital through the Ones To Watch award, will also be bringing the popular Games Question Time to Scotland for the first time ever.
Gregor White, the director of Dare, told us:
“Dare Indie Fest will be a fantastic opportunity for independent companies to come to Dundee and make the contacts they need to find new opportunities and secure new business.”
UKIE is also holding a number of consultations at Dare Protoplay on the forthcoming UK tax breaks. To make sure your company is informed and up-to-date, book an appointment now (note: other tax breaks workshops, from other organisations are also available).
