Calling Scotland’s Remote Games Workers

Scotland's Remote Games Workers

Do you work in videogames, but not for a studio in Scotland? Wondering if there’s a way to connect with others in the same situation? This is for you…

Since lockdown in 2020/21 and especially over the last two years through Scottish Games Week, I’ve been lucky enough to meet a *lot* of people who work in the games industry, based in Scotland, but working for companies and studios all around the world.

From the largest AAA studios to games tech, esports, and streaming platforms, I’ve met more than a dozen people, from founders and business owners to those just starting their careers in games. All of whom work remotely (in some cases, very remotely) but are still a part of Scotland’s amazing games community.

Many of these folks have told me that while they have a great team or amazing studio culture, it can be isolating not having others nearby to connect with.

So, if you work in any role across videogames (or games-adjacent) for a studio outside of Scotland (including the rest of the UK) and would like a place to find others in the same situation – we’ve created an exclusive Discord Channel, specifically for Scotland’s remote games workers.

It’s an open channel and a safe space for everyone out there involved in the global games ecosystem currently living and working in Scotland.

The usual rules for online forums and discussion channels apply. All of which boil down to: be kind, be respectful, don’t be a dick.

A Space For All Of Us

This is the first new channel in the entirely revamped Scottish Games Network Discord channel, which offers spaces and channels for everyone across the country: developers, educators, policy-makers, content creators, the media and more.

If you’d like to join the Scotland’s Remote Games Workers Discord channel, follow this link. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or would just like to say hello, please get in touch.
