Wanted: 2 x Digital Technologists In Residence For Game Creation

Digital Technologist in Residence

Help us Create Something Amazing…

YouthLink Scotland and Abertay University are looking for two digital technologists in residence roles to work with two youth groups to develop their game ideas.

They are looking for two creative and self-motivated game designers to help the groups finalise their concepts and explore game development. Each group has created a game concept and is spending regular time each week developing them into working prototypes.

About the role

Would you be willing to visit two or three youth group sessions as the digital technologist in residence? Could you offer advice, ideas and encouragement to support the young people develop their project? A youth worker will be there to support the group at all times and a short preliminary meeting will be set up to explain the project and agree on the approach.

(It is unconfirmed but possible that  some funding may be available for a few days of developer time as the projects develop.)

The projects are:

DataKirk (Edinburgh)

Dodge the Fog: is an engaging and educational endless runner game designed to raise awareness among middle and high school students about the negative effects of vaping. Through dynamic gameplay and subtle educational messages, players will learn about the importance of lung health and making healthy lifestyle choices.

Ochil Youths Community Improvement (Tillicoultry)

RPG: In a world where Earth is destroyed and ruled by dragons, you must work together with your dragons and team to defend your homeland. Can you save humanity? The game is an RPG open-world game and you can switch between third-person and first-person perspective. In gameplay, there are good and bad dragons, and you can collect eggs, raise them and use them to battle.  There was a discussion about underlying themes/storylines about dragons being misunderstood. (The game has still to be titled).

Dates

Wednesday 2nd October and Wednesday 9th October 4.30 – 6pm have been suggested as starting dates.

We hope you can help. To find out more about the digital technologists in residence, please contact Hilary Phillips at YouthLink Scotland  hphillips@youthlink.scot
