Wishlist: Judero – A Claymation Adventure Game

Judero Title Screen

A handmade action/adventure game based on the rich folklore of the Scottish Borders.

Judero is a ‘claymation’ action/ adventure game, created by the incredible Scottish artist and developer, Jack King-Spooner, inspired by the rich folk history of the Scottish Borders.

Created entirely in stop-motion using handmade models, you take the role of Judero, a Celt who can establish a rapport with the nature around him. Players must travel with Judero through a handcrafted landscape as he discovers there is an evil at work ‘manipulating the unguarded’.

Even before release, the game is picking up a lot of love from players and the press, with PC Gamer describing it as a “pagan fever dream of a game”. While Rock Paper Shotgun notes the “unexpectedly intense boss battles”.

Judero follows Jack King-Spooner’s unique and idiosyncratic style. This is not your typical indie game. The visuals in the games are all made from handcrafted objects and bespoke figurines, animated in the stop-motion tradition.

According to Jack:

For us, this art style invokes something nostalgic; in part comical but perhaps a little bit creepy too. These real-life elements are then rendered into a 3D world to evoke a unique visual style. Using this style we can bring in digital techniques like real-time lighting, shaders and post-processing effects. Cutscenes will be made using traditional stop-motion animation techniques with greater fidelity to give a more cinematic quality.

Features

Judero is not just a showcase for Jack’s incredible animation. The game comes packed with a list of fun features, including:
