Scottish Parliament Dares To Support Games Sector

The Scottish government has been a vocal supporter of the video games and interactive industry in Scotland for the last several years. In addition to supporting tax breaks prior to Westminster, it has directly supported the inclusion of foreign teams in Dare to be Digital, created a cross-party group on videogames and has recognised the value of games both commercially and culturally.

Most recently, Clare Adamson, MSP for Central Scotland and co-chair of the cross-party group on videogames technology, lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament supporting and congratulating the participants in this year’s Dare to be Digital, as well as Abertay, Creative Scotland, Dundee City Council and Event Scotland for their ongoing involvement.

Title: Video Games Showcase Event

Motion Text:

That the Parliament congratulates the Dare to be Digital video games development competition; recognises the hard work and dedication of the teams of students who assembled at Abertay University for nine weeks from June to August 2014 to develop prototype video games, culminating in the Dare ProtoPlay 2014 event held in Dundee from 7 to 10 August; notes that these prototypes are displayed at a free talent showcase event where the general public and industry experts get to play and vote for the games, and further congratulates the sponsors, Creative Scotland, Event Scotland and Dundee City Council, for supporting what it considers this exciting event showcasing the growing video games industry in Scotland.
