Dundee’s Triple B games has been working quietly in the background for the last several years, producing a wide range of game for Xbox Live Arcade including Flowrider, Wushi, College Lacrosse 2011, Zombies 8 My Cookiez and Fitba. Now, with their latest release, World Soccer, the studio has moved to Apple’s iPhone and iPad.

World Soccer is a fast-paced head-to-head multiplayer match 3 game in which two players compete on a single iPad to achieve world cup glory. Players must match specific football items – boots, shirts, footballs, whistles and of course, money – in order to pass, tackle, shoot and score goals.

Players can choose from over 80 countries and take their nation to the very top of the world championships, without dirtying a boot, having to train, or bribing a hopelessly corrupt soccer official to bring the competition to your country despite having no football fields or flat countryside and a minor civil war bubbling away around your only airport…

In our first match, Scotland took on Argentina, losing 3-0, so it’s clearly realistic. World Soccer is fast, it’s fun, it’s simple and even if you couldn’t be forced to care about football at knifepoint, it offers a new and creative twist on the classic match 3 genre.

Some pundits claim achieving success on the app store is a 50/50 game. Triple B are seen by many as minnows playing with the big boys when it comes to iOS, but from the kick-off, the lads have gone out there with a mind to win and given it their best shot.

Some pundits might argue that when it comes to mobile there are no easy games. In this case, thanks to the split screen action, it’s literally end-to-end stuff and a real game of two halves. On paper Triple B has got it all going for them. They’re a strong team, experienced and willing to get out there and have a go.
