Following the success of the Glasgow Independent Games Festival, the team behind the event is bringing back another of its popular community initiatives this month: the Glasgow Games Soapbox.
The free, informal networking event is an “open-mic night for game developers,” providing a relaxed space for creators to share their work, discuss ideas, and connect with peers from across the ecosystem. The next event is scheduled for Thursday, 4th September 2025, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the Glasgow School of Art, Reid Lecture Theatre.
The Soapbox is a chance for developers at all stages of their career to get up and talk for five to ten minutes about whatever they’re passionate about. Whether it’s showing off a work-in-progress, sharing a key learning from a recent project, or simply pitching a new idea, the stage is open to everyone.
This month’s Glasgow Games Soapbox will feature two guest speakers:
- Tom Welsh (writer on the award-winning Cloudpunk) will present “Write Buddy Cops. Even If They’re Not Buddies. Or Cops.” In an expanded version of his talk from GIGF, Tom will explore the power of the “odd couple” dynamic in storytelling and how developers can leverage it in their own narratives.
- Fraser Purdie, a BAFTA-nominated composer and sound designer, will showcase his recent work on “Responsive Soundtrack Design with WWise.” Fraser will take attendees through his process for creating dynamic compositions that adapt to mood and gameplay, including a live demo.
For those not ready to take to the stage, the event is a fantastic opportunity to see what’s being created in the local scene, offer feedback, and meet fellow developers in a friendly and supportive environment.
The Glasgow Games Soapbox is a cornerstone of the city’s grassroots developer community, and these events are an invaluable part of building the connections and collaborations that make the Scottish ecosystem so special.
