Mark your calendars – the ever-popular Drop in and Play event returns to Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA) on Saturday, May 25th, from 13:00 – 16:00. This free event – presented in partnership Ninja Kiwi – promises an afternoon brimming with exciting new games, vibrant local indie talent, and a chance to celebrate the Scottish games ecosystem.
A Platform for Creativity: Showcasing Local Games
Drop in and Play offers a platform for local developers to showcase their latest projects and connect with the wider Scottish games community. Thirteen teams will be on hand at the event, to showcase their latest titles. Get ready to dive into a diverse selection of games, from innovative indie titles to student masterpieces.
Industry Giants and Local Heroes: A Mix of Expertise
The event boasts a range of games from established studios and budding independent developers. Dundee’s Astrodreamer Studio returns with its intriguing sci-fi adventure, A Bonnie Odyssey. Bitloom, the studio behind the award-winning Phogs, unveils its highly-anticipated prototype, Sproot, while solo developer Ryan Scott brings his cutting-edge augmented reality tabletop game, Battlemaps AR. Additionally, Leo McArdle’s physics-driven speedster, Strata, promises to test your piloting skills, and James Rhodes’ charming platformer, Boingo, returns to win the hearts of players young and old.
Nurturing Tomorrow’s Talent: Students Take Center Stage
Drop in and Play recognizes the importance of fostering future generations of game developers. Several projects showcased this year come from Abertay University’s talented student body and alumni. Studio Catloaf returns with their award-winning pixel art RPG, Book of Abominations, while Ghost Camp brings their social deduction game, Forest of Deceit, and Cognitive Games presents their galactic battle title, Deadlocked.
Beyond the Usual: Award-Winning Experiences and Scottish Flavors
The event welcomes Anzal Baig and Jose Luis Pacheco Boscan, who will showcase their award-winning strategy game, Pip Pepper Park Planner. Additionally, the BAFTA-nominated studio (and generally lovely) Ant Workshop brings its captivating exploration of Scottish folklore, Into the Restless Ruins.
A Nostalgic Twist and Modern Takes on Classics
For those seeking a taste of nostalgia, the event features arcade and board game-inspired titles. Andrew Murdoch’s Springpong offers a fresh take on pinball, while Melonleaf Industries’ Bean to Me reimagines the ancient game of Mancala with a modern twist.
