Autonauts, Denki’s quirky and charming, robot-based, colonise-em-up, has won the BAFTA Scotland Game Award at the entirely virtual ceremony last night.
Autonauts had some stiff competition, with Dead End Job, the gritty, twin-stick, ghostbust-em-up from Edinburgh indie powerhouse Antworkshop and Cloudpunk, the noir-drenched, deliver-em-up from globally distributed digital darlings Ion Lands, also in the running.
In the end though, Autonauts walked off with the trophy. This is Denki’s second Scottish BAFTA, with the company’s much-loved anagram-em-up Quarrel winning the trophy back in 2010.
Accepting the award, Denki’s Gary Penn, thanked publisher, Curve, for it’s unwavering support, as well as Autonaut’s players and community for it’s eternal warmth and support. Well, let’s see Gary speak for himself…
Autonauts is no stranger to the red carpet, with the game nonchalantly strolling off with the TIGA Best Educational Game award back in 2017, then the UKIE Game of the Show at Gamescom in 2019.
Like many events in 2020, last night’s BAFTA Scotland Awards took place entirely online. Hosted by the ever-incredible Edith Bowman, other winners included Ncuti Gatwa (best actor TV – Sex Education), Glenda Jackson (best actress TV – Elizabeth Is Missing), Scot Squad: The Chief’s Election Interviews, and Outlander (audience award).

Congratulations to Gary and Aaron for a well-deserved win. Commiserations to Ant Workshop and Ion Lands, the BAFTA Scotland Game Award was a very tough category this year, so the nomination was a great achievement (don’t forget to add that to your store listings – a BAFTA nomination is still pretty awesome…)
