OUT NOW: Eldevin – Scotland’s Next Biggest Game…?

Eldevin - ColourEldevin, the new massively multi-player online role-playing game from Hunted Cow is now live and online.

After almost eight years of development, costing in the region of £1M to create, Eldevin has similarly large ambitions – to become the biggest browser-based game in the world.

a_portal_to_the_void_opensHunted Cow financed the creation of the game itself, building several highly successful browser-based, free-to-play role-playing games, such as Gothador and Fallen Sword to fund the ongoing creation of Eldevin.  This in itself is a huge achievement, but Eldevin doesn’t stop there.

Eldevin uses Java, the ubiquitous technology found in every modern web browser.  This makes it compatible with almost every PC, running Windows or Linux, as well as Mac computers, tablets and netbooks, giving the team at Hunted Cow the opportunity to hit billions of potential players worldwide.

hanging_out_at_the_eldevin_pet_shopPC gaming has undergone a quiet revolution in the last year or so, thanks in part to the growing indie gaming scene, as well as distribution systems such as Steam, Desura and Good Old Games.  The PC is seen as offering an alternative to the smaller and more casual games found on mobile phones and tablets.  Combined with the rapidly growing market for Mac games and a surge in interest in Linux distributions, Eldevin has a huge opportunity to bring all of these markets together.

The game is set in the kingdom of Eldevin, where the mysterious Elemental Spheres of Power have corrupted the guardians tasked with protecting them, plunging the world into chaos. Now Tristan, the Emperor of the Infernal Empire and guardian of the Dark Sphere, will stop at nothing to satisfy his greed for more power and to conquer the remaining Spheres — even if it means destroying his former homeland. In their quest, players will travel through countless areas, discover lost cities and artefacts, and encounter challenging bosses.

Players can ally with the Eldevin Army or the mages of the Arcane Council in an epic quest to protect the Kingdom. The game promises hundreds of hours of content and features 14 gathering and crafting professions and several thousand items.

Players can take on one of six unique roles — Templar, Warrior, Assassin, Ranger, Mage, and Prophet.  However the game offers a unique new classless system for talents and abilities, allowing players to mix and match in a way which suits them and allows the creation of their own unique characters.

John Stewart, the studio manager of Hunted Cow, told us:

Eldevin’s launch marks the culmination of many years of hard work by our small and dedicated 15-member team.  Development won’t stop here, however, as new features and content are already in the works so the game will continue to grow over the coming years. We’d like to thank all our fans and beta testers for their dedication and support, and we look forward to seeing everyone in game.

Eldevin is free to play and can be accessed on almost any computer, running any operating system, using any good web browser – Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, Opera or Safari.

Huge congratulations to the entire Hunted Cow team.  We hope the game exceeds your wildest ambitions.
