Culture Hack Scotland

culture-hackCulture Hack Scotland is a 48 hour event for developers, designers, artists and producers, taking place in Glasgow’s Whisky Bond from July 12th – 14th.

CHS challenges participants to create a ‘culture related project’.  The description of last year’s event describes it like this:

Culture Hack Scotland does what is says on the tin. It’s a hackday – an intense event in which quick proof-of-concept digital projects are made in a short period of time, in this case 24 hours. It’s set in a cultural context in that data and content is provided specially for the event from cultural organisations so as to provide inspiration and framing for the project prototypes that are made. And it’s in Scotland, involves Scottish cultural organisations and mainly, but not exclusively, digital and design talent from around Scotland. Incubated by the Edinburgh Festivals in its first year in 2011, it is now an independent event managed through Sync and although only two years young, it is already established as one of the most productive cultural innovation events around.

SyncHackColour1Culture Hack is free to attend.  There are passes for designers/developers, artists/producers and an Insights pass, for those who want to visit, check out the hack, but not necessarily get their hands dirty with actual hacking…

You can book your place on Eventbrite.

Sync is running two pre-hack meetups in Glasgow (6.30pm, Friday 28 June) and Edinburgh (6.30pm, Friday 5 July).  If you’re an artist designer, technologist or producer, are coming to Culture Hack Scotland and have an idea you want to float, then this is the time to do it.

Whether you’re an artist new to the hack environment with an idea you want to discuss, or a confident hack veteran with experience to share, these pre-hack meetups are an opportunity to find out how to get the most out of the hack weekend.

Moving beyond games and entertainment.  It sounds scary, but it might help us all evolve and get over the bullet holes and space marines…
