IGDA Scotland Announces Latest Scholarship Recipient

igdaThe International Game Developers Association does far more than organise events and get involved in fun, games-related activities.  The organisation is dedicated to helping individuals working within the videogames sector.

As part of this, the IGDA created a programme of scholarships back in 2001, designed to help promising students attend the prestigious (and incredibly useful) Game Developers Conference, with an access-all-areas pass.

The scholarships programme has expanded since then and now encompasses many of the most significant game-related conferences, expos and events worldwide.

Scotland has achieved a great deal of success in the programme.  The country has secured eight scholarships in the last three years and this year’s GDC scholar is the third in a row to be selected as for the event.

In short, we’re doing rather well.  The IGA is a global organisation and the scholarships are fiercely contested by students worldwide.  The games education community and academic organisations in Scotland should be incredibly proud, this is quite an achievement.

IGDA ScholarsSo, allow us to introduce Timea Tabori, from the University of Abertay, Scotland’s latest IGDA scholar.

Brian McDonald, one of the organisers of the IGDA Scotland chapter told us:

“This is excellent news for the Games Development Community in Scotland, having eight scholars is three years shows that our educational sector is producing talented students who are recognised around the World. The IGDA Scholarship programme is an opportunity for budding Game Developers who are still learning their trade to rub shoulders with giants of the Games Industry, which should inspire the scholar become one of the future leaders of our Industry.”

IGDA Scotland would also like to point out that scholarships for the even larger E3 Expo in LA are opening SOON.  You should apply.  Yes, you.  You should.

We’ll leave the last word to Timea:

“I’m very excited to be given such an amazing opportunity and I’m really looking forward to meeting as many people as I can at GDC!”

You can find the IGDA Scotland chapter online, on Facebook or even on Twitter, for you bohemians and artists out there.

Congratulations Timea.  We look forward to hearing about your adventures at GDC…
