Dare To Be Digital 2013 – The World’s Biggest Game Creation Competition – Now Open For Entries

dare 2013 entriesDare to be Digital is BACK for 2013.  If you’re a regular visitor to the Scottish Games Network, then you’ll know we’re big fans of the competition (disclaimer: the good people at Dare regularly ask your editor to get involved in some way(s) – speaking, presenting, mentoring or hosting the awards.  We’re very proud…)

Dare is unique.  Nothing like it exists anywhere else in the world.  The competition pulls in support from the Scottish government, organisations including BAFTA, Creative Scotland, UKIE, TIGA and even the mysterious Rockstar North…  Competitors from Dare to be Digital have secured jobs with some of the world’s largest developers and publishers and increasingly, the games created for the competition are hitting the market and giving teams the opportunity to take their competition experience directly into the market.

Dare to be Digital logoIf you’re not familiar with the way Dare to be Digital works, it’s quite simple.  The competition is open to teams from universities and colleges of art all around the world.  Teams submit a game concept, which is judged by a panel of leading developers and experienced industry types.  If the concept is successful, the team is then shipped to Dundee for nine weeks over the summer holidays, where they have to turn their concept into a working prototype.  They then show that Prototype off to thousands of members of the public, over three days at the Dare ProtoPlay event.  Winners are chosen by judges from a wide range of developers and industry experts, which make up the Dare Developer Accord.  The rewards are pretty good too.  Fame, glory, a job in the games industry, a more or less completed game you can release and the chance to walk away with an actual BAFTA award.

Now Dare to be Digital 2013 is open for entries.  Entries close on April 9th 2013.

Space is limited.  Only 15 teams can take part in the competition.  Plus entry is FREE – so things will get very busy very quickly.

The Dare to be Digital team has created a handy easy-to-understand guide to entering the competition.  You can check it out here…

Visit the Dare to be Digital website, find them on Facebook or follow them on Twitter for all the latest news and updates, or if you have any questions.

Dare should be the World Cup of the global games industry.  It should be celebrated worldwide as something entirely unique, incredibly exciting and be recognised as the amazing experience it is, for participants, industry partners and players alike.

We’d recommend it without any hesitation.  Go on, enter.

  1. Great piece! As if Dare ProtoPlay couldn’t get any better, we’ve only decided to make it 4 days instead of 3….
