The 2012 TIGA Awards nominations have been announced, with several Scottish companies and teams included. There are several categories where Scotland is well represented – most notably the student games category which, thanks to Dare to be Digital, we dominate almost entirely.
However there are many categories which rather inexplicably don’t include any games from companies in Scotland. Whether this is due to the judging process, or no companies having entered these categories, we can’t say.
Running down the categories in (almost) alphabetical order, we have…
Action/Adventure –
Arcade – Minecraft XBLA (4J Studios)
Casual –
Student – Mr Montgomery’s Debonair Facial Hair (Dapper Hat Games – Dare), Gravtech (Faceplant – Dare), The Rig (Frozen Summer Studios – Abertay), Interstate Outlaws (Gastank Games – Dare), Constructs (Kangaroo Magic –Abertay), Ready Steady Roll (Mad Rocket Games – Dare), Tick Tock Toys (Swallowtail – Dare)
Debut Game – Mush (Angry Mango, Dare)
Visual Design – Bad Hotel (Lucky Frame)
Game Design –
Audio Design –
Originality – Bad Hotel (Lucky Frame), Mush (Angry Mango)
Tools & Technology – Predict Platform (Games Analytics), Speech Graphics (Speech Graphics Ltd)
The Business Of Games awards are open to TIGA members only…
Leadership –
Publisher –
Service Provider –
University –
Start-Up –
There are also three categories which are chosen by the judges, which were not open for entries:
Game of the year – All game entries are automatically nominated
Person of the year – A person within the games world who has done a lot for the games industry in the last 12 months
Friend of the sector – Someone outside the games industry who’s pitched in and helped like a good’un
There are some glaring gaps however. No Abertay, Glasgow Caledonian, UWS or Napier in the university category? No casual, game design, audio design or casual entries?
Congratulations to each and every company which made the short list. We’re chuffed, cock-a-hoop and quietly satisfied that Scotland has some representation within these new awards.
The awards ceremony takes place on the 1st of November in a presumably glittering evening of fabulousness. We shall, of course be writing up the awards – as they happen – based on Tweets, just to make sure we’re in there first.
You can see the full list of nominees over on the TIGA website.
A typo spotted Mr Baglow! Winners announced on the 1st of Nov
