Ladies & Gentlemen, please welcome a new company to the happy, hard-working Scottishgames family. Huzutech is based in Glasgow and is the creator of a new technology which allows online, browser-based virtual worlds to be developed.
Aimed at the social and casual end of the gaming market, Huzutech works with brand and intellectual property (IP) owners, enabling them to build their own, wholly-branded online worlds, in which users can play, communicate, collaborate and compete. All of which is, in turn, wholly integrated into the major social networks – so Twitter and Facebook at the moment – but any other networks as they emerge.
Huzutech comes from a slightly different background to many of the companies in Scotland which are involved in the games sector. The company emerged from the former Digital Animations Group, which also produced online/social agency Yomego.
The company recently released a technology demonstrator via the company website. Paperworld is a simple, mouse-driven 2.5D online world, in which you can wander around a a city, speak to other users and – in a stroke of evil genius – abuse ducks. If you’re anywhere near a PC, we’d recommend it (and challenge you to beat 7).
Huzutech is already working with a number of large media companies and brand owners, which are building a new generation of deeply connected social gaming communities based around their licenses and franchises (we’re promised details on which ones fairly soon…)
Huzutech announced earlier today that it’s working with Dave Jones – founder of DMA and Realtime Worlds and the man behind Lemmings, GTA, Crackdown and APB – to bring his experience and expertise on board as the entire social gaming phenomenon continues to evolve and grow.
Which makes sense. Sitting at the point where social gaming, casual gaming, MMO, virtual world, online community and social network all intersect gives Huzutech a huge opportunity to approach and address all of those markets. Since the common theme from all of the major trade shows from SxSW to E3 and all points in between indicates that, really, nobody quite knows what the hell is going to happen, getting some experienced people from all of these various areas is a good move.
Please say hello the the Huzutech team and check out Paperworld – and the latest news from the company over on their website.
Huzutech has also been enshrined in the gloriously detailed Scottishgames’ Who’s Who page.
Hey Amanda et al, thanks for the nice blog post. If you speak nicely to Graeme and the gang, they might be able to give you some info on an exciting project Yomego & Huzu are working on at the moment 🙂
Hi Kirsty! Thanks for the tip! We will whisper sweet things to Graeme. 😉
