The Xbox 360 editition of Minecraft has retained the top spot in the UK all-format Top 40 for the second week in a row, fighting off competition from The Last Of Us (#2) and Animal Crossing: New Leaf (#3).
As we pointed out last week, the chart is stuffed with major, multi-title franchises, sequels and games which have legacies of years and in some cases decades. Â The success of a ‘new’ title like Minecraft in the charts is proof-positive that the really exciting advances and developments in gaming are likely to come from the periphery of the games world. Â The indies, the smaller, more agile teams with the crazy ideas which the major publishers would discount out of hand…
Hats off once more to Mojang, 4J Studios and Microsoft for the ongoing support and updates to the game. Â We’ve experienced the devotion and dedication of the Minecraft fanbase first hand, so the game’s ongoing popularity and strong sales are no real surprise.
