The current funding round from the Prototype fund, administered by Abertay University closes on September 19th.
For those of you unaware of the Prototype fund, it offers grants of up to £25,000 to small companies working on new digital media projects – including videogames and interactive entertainment experiences.
Companies can be based anywhere in the UK. Alongside the funding, Abertay can also offer expertise from industry veterans, space within Abertay’s professional level development environment, graduates from the university’s talent pool and networking opportunities.
There are even opportunities for more established companies, thanks to the Prototype fund’s regular competitions, which bring together different elements of the creative sector and create new transmedia experiences.
If you’re interested in applying to the Prototype fund, you need to get an application in by 5pm on Wednesday 19th of September.

A major competition to use computer games to promote films created by the University of Abertay Dundee, D-Media and IC tomorrow in association with Lionsgate UK and the BFI (British Film Institute) has been launched.
Four £25,000 prizes are available in the Games for Film contest. Two prizes are for games which innovatively promote the upcoming theatrical release of two exciting new British feature films the BFI is offering early access to, Spike Island and Smash and Grab: The Story of the Pink Panthers, both of which were co-financed through the BFI Film Fund and are currently in post-production.
The two Lionsgate UK prizes will prototype how games can be used for a film’s cinematic or home entertainment release. The titles available for development for the Lionsgate prizes could include Dirty Dancing, Great Expectations, The Expendables 2, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D and many more films.
The Prototype Fund is funding the prizes and working with the Technology Strategy Board’s IC tomorrow programme and the D-Media Network to deliver the Games for Film contest.

On an editorial note, we have to point out that despite trawling nearly every games industry and creative sector news source and website in the UK, this is the first we’ve heard of this. Which is ridiculous, since it looks like a great competition, which deserves a lot more recognition and support…
Just to make it clear to everyone that is reading this. The Prototype fund doesn’t hand out “grants” after a good read of the T’s and C’c all they are offering are LOANS.
There are much better options out there for indie studios that don’t lie to the applicants.
